Fulcrum Theatre presents Breathe

There is a growing theatre community in Hamilton and it seems that new, independent theatre companies have popped up left and right. Fulcrum Theatre, started by five Hamilton Natives and undergraduate students, is about to premiere this month with their original work, Breathe. The five students started Fulcrum because they saw a need for more outlets to explore original works. The group hopes to bring together new, young talent who have a passion for theatre and to build relationships through crafting new creative works.

Their debut show follows a young university drop out as he tries to come to terms with his past – including a friend’s tragic accident. Humourously thrown into the mix are his best friend and a young writer who follows his every move in order to write his biography for a writing contest. The show is ultimately about, “wingmen, liars and failed dreamers. It is the story of what happens when we’re knocked down a few pegs and the journey of moving on. Set in the worst city ever, Breathe asks the question: “Who are we and why are we moving so freaking fast? What happens when we just look up and breathe?”

The production features an original piano score with 13 songs composed by Greg Solomon.

The Hamilton community can catch Breathe at the Staircase Theatre (27 Dundurn St. N) on August 25, 26, and 27 at 8pm. Tickets are $12 and can be reserved by emailing fulcrum.theatre1@gmail.com.
