haolin munk and Large King Canadians

10pm Thursday July 26th @ Homegrown Hamilton

This Thursday two Hamilton bands will be playing after the Homegrown Seen Open Mic, which starts at 8:30pm. Large King CanadiansMC Stagefright and DJ TV Cop, play hard hitting hip-hop bangers; prepare yourselves. haolin munk will take to the stage after LKC, continuing the hip-hop vibes through a jazz filter. Consisting of bass, drums, and two horns, these colourfully-clad gents will lay down the groove so you don’t have to. This concert is the first in the Jive Trilogy, hosted by haolin munk.

Last year, I traveled to one of the biggest wine tourist destinations in the world – California’s Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. As a wine lover, the trip was a dream come true, especially as I imagined being in my favourite movie, Sideways, joining Paul Giamatti’s character Miles on his quest for great Pinot Noir. But even the allure of Hollywood couldn’t stop me from thinking about how lucky I am to have a wine destination in my own backyard. Only 20 minutes outside of Hamilton, in the small neighbouring towns of Grimsby, Beamsville and Jordan, you will find Niagara’s wine country.

The Women & Liminal Committee and Bryan Prince Booksellers presents the second annual GLBTQ Poetry Slam at the Staircase Theatre (Dundurn and King)

There will be one winner awarded with $100 Cash Prize. Both local poets and amateur poets will be reciting original works! Aside from being a poetry slam, this is also a social event. Come and mingle with some great people!

B.A. Johnston Record Release

Saturday, Feb. 25th   9pm @ This Ain’t Hollywood – $7

The man.. The Legend.. B.A. Johnston is celebrating the release of his latest record ‘Hi Dudes’ this Saturday at This Ain’t Hollywood.

B.A. is a local favourite who tours the country singing about what he knows and loves:  Hamilton, The Hamilton Tiger Cats, Jackson Square, snacks,  game shows etc.  Here is a sample of his poetic ode to Price is Right from “Hi Dudes”..
“We’ve all got rituals, mine involve breakfast cereals and game shows that start at the crack of early afternoon … when the couch is the only place I want to roam, Oh I love You Price Is Right …”

Special guests will include: Hamilton Award Winners Canadian Winter, Cam Malcolm with his new band Toledo, and Hamilton’s favourite activist Matt Jelly.

Ciara’s Cute Dates: Skating at Hamilton Waterfront

When I was six years old I was chosen by my coach to lead my precision skating team out on the ice for our routine, backed up by the song, “Copacabana.” I remember charging out on the ice, rolling my arms fervently in the air just as we practiced with that lively song surging through my veins. That was the peak of my skating career, and unfortunately, as good as I ever became at skating.

OxJam at the Casbah

Thursday January 19th The Casbah, 306 King St. W. Doors at 8pm $10

This Thursday at the Casbah Oxfam McMaster will be holding OxJam, a benefit concert to raise funds for humanitarian relief for the drought in East Africa. Local bands you’ll see: Inlet Sound, The Conservation Authority, Your Neck of the Woods, and Of Gentlemen and Cowards. It’s sure to be a folky, and high energy evening! And all for just $10 going to a great cause.
