Art Crawl After Party: Sweet Ice Dance Party

Friday, April 13 @ 10pm at The Baltimore House

The lovely duo behind Sweet Ice Snow Cones has bought a Shasta trailer! Can you imagine?! The sweetest of girls serving the sweetest of snow cones out of the sweetest of shasta trailers! I almost can’t handle it.

Well, this adorable vehicle needs a bit of an over haul and there is one way that you can help! It’s quite the burden really…you have to…go to their sweet Art Crawl After Party at The Baltimore House and spend the night dancing and drinking alcoholic snow cones! There will be no cover meaning that you can spend that extra money on more homemade snow cones! Or if spiked snow cones don’t tickle your fancy (and I don’t know why they wouldn’t) you can also purchase beer or wine. All of the proceeds will go to renovating the trailer. Hopefully by the end of the night they will have met their goal and the party can turn from a fundraiser into a success party!

So go mosey down James Street North and enjoy Spring’s first art crawl and then dance the night away with one or more snow cones in your hands.

Check out the Facebook event here for more information on the party and the trailer!

Notown at Homegrown Hamilton

Wednesday, April 4 @ 10pm at Homegrown Hamilton

The city’s midweek party has some competition this Wednesday. Right across the street, the appropriately titled “Notown” party is being hosted at Homegrown Hamilton. With Disco/House/Funky/Bass/Garage/No Wave spinning all night at one of Hamilton’s most kickass venues, it is guaranteed to be a crazy night. You might come for the spiteful and hilarious concept but you’re going to stay for the beats and booze. This isn’t a party to sit down and chill with a beer at, this is going to be a night of complete uninhibited mayhem. Let the audio mirages of Beef Jerky, Nopeople, Weedwolf and Gus take you over and make King William the most wild block this Wednesday.

Check out the Facebook event here to listen to some music and see who’s coming out.

Kony 2012: A Public Conversation

Tuesday, March 20 @7pm at Freeway Coffee

If you haven’t seen or heard of the Kony 2012 video that went viral last week you must be living under a rock. I personally have watched the video once, seen it shared by 22 of my Facebook friends, saw 16 people change their profile pictures to a campaign poster within 24 hours, have read critical thought on tumblr and seen bickering break out over twitter–and I know that I am not alone on this. As effective as social networking is, nothing can compete with engaging in face-to-face conversation about the complexities of Joseph Kony’s regime and the socio-political landscape in Uganda and Western engagement and what the next steps should be.

So come to The Freeway tonight at 7pm to partake in a guided conversation which will include a board of experts including members from “Impact Uganda”, missionaries and Ugandans. There will be an opportunity for questions and responses at the end of the talk.

Sew Fancy

Friday, January 20 @9pm at Needlework

Have you heard about one of James Street North’s newest additions? Needlework is going to be a fabric and creative workspace where crafty Hamitonian’s can come together to learn, work, socialize and inspire one another.

The girls are about to fill their open space with fabrics and furnishings, but before they do, they want to host a dance party just for you! Featuring DJ Donna Lovejoy (think Mulberry After Dark and Sweet Ice Dance Party) the party is guaranteed to be an amazing night. And with an adorably witty name like “Sew Fancy“, who can say no? The doors open at 9pm and admission is only $5. So come out, support the arts and have an amazing night filled with dancing on one of the best streets in this city.
