Hip hop showcase at Absinthe

Friday, August 31st. 9:30pm @ Absinthe – $15 (limited)

One of Hamilton’s most talked about and anticipated hip hop shows is happening at the end of the month at Absinthe.

This show is so huge – it is already basically sold out.  Tickets are unlikely to be sold at the door, instead you are encouraged to contact one of the performers (or the organizers via facebook) to see about securing a ticket.

This showcase style show features many amazing local lyricist and MCs.  It is a stacked bill that includes: Hamilton Hi-Cats, Arcane, Lee Reed, Jai Steels, Every Day People, D-Toxx, UMSC, Transition & Topicz, J-Ache$, Certified, J Millah, Vision, Lady ASG, The Demon, and more.
The excitement about this show is in part due to a rare appearance by Canada’s Got Talent goldenboy: The Emsee, also know as Hamilton’s Matthew Cathcart.

I was able to catch up with Emsee recently and ask him a few questions about his career and the local hip hop scene.

This Midsummer Night’s Dream festival has the potential to be the event of the summer. It has all the makings of an amazing all day summer party.

If the Facebook event page is anything to go by, this is one exciting party, with over 1000 confirmed guests and many many thousands pending. CBC Hamilton has also hyped this event.

I sat down with event organizer, Mark Gowland, to find out more about this intriguing event. Mark, as it turns out, is a genuine force of enthusiasm and positivity. Seriously. I walked away from our conversation feeling like I could accomplish anything!

As always, we have a list of Art Crawl highlights for your crawlin’ consideration:

7pm @ Dr. Disc

Hamilton Magazine presents the second ‘Raise the Roof’ show in honour of Dr.Disc celebrating 21 years in business.  I played a game of 21 Questions with owner, Mark, in July.

Performances are as follows:
7pm – Hachey the Mouthpiece
8pm – Sarah London
9pm – Lee Reed
10pm – Canadian Winter

Please bring non-perishable food items to this event.

The celebrations will continue into the later hours at The Casbah with a cover free after party.

De Facto at Mulberry

Local artist Jason Lee Rhyno is the featured artist for the month of August at the DF gallery. The show opens this Friday.

Jason Lee Rhyno primarily works with the drawing medium and his work suggests a preoccupation with line and a juxtapose of negative space with the masses of colour.

End your night of Art Crawlin’ at the natural end point for the event – James St.  and Murray St.
